THE MISSION:
CROWDERS MOUNTAIN, NC

The Beast of the East 100 is the definitive mountain mission of the NC Piedmont, a brutal and beautiful confrontation with the vertical spine of Crowders Mountain State Park. Engineered as a prospective Western States Qualifier, this race is designed to test the technical limits of the global ultra-running community. Every athlete, from the half-marathoners to the 100-mile elites, must navigate a relentless course that summits both Crowders and Pinnacle peaks multiple times. With the 100-mile mission packing a staggering 17,925 feet of elevation gain, the Beast is not just a race—it is a “Fighter’s Spirit” proving ground where grit is forged on the rugged Rocktop and Ridgeline trails.

Beyond the grueling vertical, this is a “Trail Sisters Approved” event that merges elite competition with the soul of the Charlotte, NC trail scene. As you battle through the technical single-track from the “Wolf’s Den” to the “Boulders Access,” you are supported by a community that understands the true cost of the finish line. Whether you are chasing the prestigious 100-mile buckle or tackling the marathon’s fury, our aid stations serve as “Trail Fuel Heaven,” stocked with the legendary energy of bacon-wrapped pickles and local spirit. Finishing the Beast of the East is a testament to resilience, earning you a symbol of survival in one of the most technical and respected ultra marathons near Charlotte.

The Stone Mountain Massacre is a vertical confrontation against the silent, towering presence of Stone Mountain State Park, NC. This quest demands total psychological and physical commitment. The course is anchored by relentless granite ascents that strip away everything but a runner’s core grit before plunging back into the technical roots and rock of the forest floor.

Central to this mission is the Stone Collection—a strict ritual where finishers must earn their place. Runners are required to collect a specific stone at every designated aid station. Missing even one signifies a failure in the mission and results in an automatic DNF. To hold the complete set at the finish is the only way to prove you conquered the mountain’s judgment.
